“Rise, Red as the dawn”

Summary:

From the minute I encountered these series it became an all-time favorite. Navigating the rough divides between the inferior red-blooded serfs of her society, and the lofty, silver-blooded nobles, Mare Barrow deeply despises her wealthier counter-parts. Especially, when they possess certain magical powers, that leave she and her fellow Reds at their mercy. When, plunged into the royal world, she mistakenly discovers her newfound ability to control lightning, it shatters the very basis of the society she’s known. Enriched with romance, fantasy, and friendship, this book explores the ideas of classism, the fight for equality, democracy, and revolution. It is a read that will leave you hanging on till the very end.

My personal thoughts:

What I especially loved regarding this book was the concept of rebellion, especially, in the establishment of the Scarlet Guard, an organization hell-bent on advocating for red rights, primarily through the use of violence, and acts of domestic terrorism. Analytically speaking, these behaviors only seemed to make the Scarlet Guard all the more ineffective and disorganized. While they believed they were promoting red equality, the number of silver casualties makes me think they were vying for red superiority instead. As the story progresses, the guard does become more organized and effective, but that does not mitigate their hatred towards all silvers. This willingness to stereotype a whole group or race, is starkly evident today, and often stems from fear. This reminded me of the currently growing Feminist movement, while often misconstrued to be a fight for women’s superiority, it is more so a world-wide coalition between all races in the struggle for gender-equality.

These are just some of my thoughts:) Have you read the “Red Queen” Series? Let me know what you think in the comments below. If you haven’t, check it out! Who knows? It might be the next best read for you!
