Why I Dislike Jane Austen Novels

Totally random question, and completely out of the blue, since I have not blogged about literature in a while: Does anyone here find Jane Austen novels truly enjoyable to read? Because I have always detested her writing for some reason. I like classics, like Wuthering Heights (Emily Bronte is the best) and Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte). I also read classic dystopias like ‘Brave New World’ and Fahrenheit 451. But for some reason, Jane Austen has never stuck with me. The plots of her stories always strike me as insipid…and very monotonous. It’s always the same character falling in love with the same guy, and not even being remotely interested in him, but only the concept of attending balls for entertainment. In my opinion, this is not classic literature, because there never seems to be a purpose in her writing. I started ‘Emma’ a few years ago but grew so annoyed with her stupidly perfect life that I stopped reading it. It was, for lack of a better word, utterly boring. Has anyone else had the same experience with her novels? Does anyone disagree with me? Do any of you have any reasonably good Jane Austen novels you’ve read recently?
