The Prophecy of Love

To fit into the theme of Valentine’s day, I decided to write a love poem. Not the typical tragic, “Romeo-Juliet-falling- in- love- with- the- son- of- death,” love poem of mine. Something more conventional, as well as metaphorical. In addition, I took into account some of the feedback I received from my prior poll, and tried to change the mood of my poem. Hope you enjoy!

I notice the gentle flames
In your devoted eyes
Like God himself laid claim
To sandy skin so divine

The grainy desert waves
Trickle from your hands to mine
Sprinkle me with Cupid's grace
As Venus and my world align

There's thrill in this dance
To music unrecognized
Showering this desert land
With a holy light

This fantasy is an oasis
And my throat-- an eroded stream
Quenching my dire thirst with
The ambrosia of Aphrodite

Hope still reigns true
It enlivens these wild dreams
It swirls the sands of time
And fulfills lost prophecies
