I wrote this poem just recently. It was inspired by the cliche themes surrounding love, shown in the media. Examples include music, movies, and literature. (Forgive me for the uncreative title).
Note: This poem doesn’t mean I don’t read romance novels. I still read them, because they’re not all terrible. In terms of writing about these cliche issues, I just found romance novels to be the most relevant for me.
Romance novels reek of despair Cloying with the smell of carnations The beauty of tragedy exaggerated far more Than the trials of hell and eternal damnation Perhaps love is nothing else Than God's method of punishing the lost For years they drift away on mellow waves Taught to surrender the world they once sought A hell on Earth embossed in paper Is nothing but a tribute to a shattered heart Draining life of joy's honeyed flavor And ripping innocent people apart
