Let Me Trace Your Heart

Let me trace your heart
With fingers that do not shake
I know your soul is fragile
But I promise it won’t break.

Let me see your wounds
Lay them open and lay them bare...
It's been so long since poetry
Has flowed from these lips
Let me share…

Show me your ocean eyes
And if they spiral or shatter like glass
I'll beg you to answer those questions
No one else ever asks.

Plant your heart in my fingers,
I'll open my hands wide like the earth...
Slowly unburying the parts of you
Aged by silt and holy dirt.

Let me see your land
Your oceans
Your sunrise
The parts of yourself that you hate...
Let me make them mine.

Lover,
Let me trace your heart
And I’ll teach you to see your face
As clearly as God made you
When she held you in her embrace.
